Finally after 8 years of cadet-ship I have my Silver Anti-Negativity Helmet and Goggles!!!
Over the past few months I have been doing world building for a graphic novel series, and while I am making progress, it is slow progress mostly due to my overly obsessive habits when it comes to art. So, I have come to the tumblr blogiverse to send my dilemmas to the ether of the internet, to my 18 or so followers here, and anyone else nice enough to stop and read this.
So, starting from the beginning I used a list of 40 questions to build a D&D campaign. It had very useful questions like “what kind of geography is there? what types of religions are there? what kind of govt? etc.” I used those questions and omitted the questions specific to playing D&D and game mechanics for obvious reasons.
After I finished I was left with the task of fitting all these pieces together in a logical way that the super-nerds and uber-geeks can’t find fault with like they do with other works of fiction, 2 examples being the geography of Middle earth and the Land of Oz.
Everyone I know in real life tells me I am over thinking this stuff, but the super nerd in me knows there are people out there that when they get addicted to a fictional universe, they tear it apart looking for flaws. And since no writer I have ever heard of writes stories for no one else to read, I am compelled to make my universe as solidly built as possible.
So questions arise like “where do I put mountains so that this area can be a desert?” and “what are the relationships of names of places; like what makes a town name the name of a town and not the name of a state and vice versa?”
In these early steps to building the world I hesitate to move beyond such important things, as City and country names and locations of geographical landmarks are vital to creating a realistic fiction.
So to all that read this, I ask you leave comments or something with suggestions on what sort of rules go into naming Cities and Countries. I’m not too worried about world geography as most of the story(ies) will take place in a city as its a fantasy-crime fiction like D&D meets CSI. That said, I feel like knowing the lay out of the planet will better server to realize fully formed characters for my world.
I’m really not that big of a Weird Al fan.
Not at all.
reglobbing my stupidity for the day crowd.
how much cooler can you get? Dr Who, Aquabats, Weird Al, were will the awesomeness stop?! IF EVER?!
pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease tell me you can play the accordion!
Please keep it SFW, and to canon characters!
seeing as how Ricky is so much “younger” than his cohorts, and joined so much later, I would say my Head Cannon for him would be that After Space Monster M took control of Aquabania, Ricky used his super speed to run across the ocean in search of the rumored refugees that had made it off the island in a hollowed out log. that’s it… I just like the idea of Ricky Being able to run on water like the Flash
In west philadelphia born and raised, on a play ground is where i spent most of my days. chillin’ out max and relaxin’ all cool, and i’m shootin’ some b’ball outside of the school. when a couple of guys, who were up to no good, started making trouble in my neighborhood. I got in one little fight and my mom got scared and said you’re moving to auntie’s and uncle’s in bel-air.
